On Super Bowl Sunday, Colin Kaepernick passed on the festivities in Miami to positively impact the lives of many in New York.
His first route was a tour at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem. The center is a research library of the New York Public Library and an archive repository for information on people of African descent worldwide.
His next stop was to the SCO Family Shelter in Jamaica, Queens. SCO Family of Services helps New Yorkers build a strong foundation for the future. The organization helps young children get off to a good start, launch youth into adulthood, stabilize and strengthen families and unlock potential for children and adults with special needs.
It was there that Kaepernick met with Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid to hand out clothing. This was done in partnership with 100 Suits for 100 Men, a nonprofit with a core service to provide free business attire to men and women who are in the job search process.
Colin was even captured helping some of the recipients try on their new outfits.
The 32-year-old activist also made time to serve meals for the people at the shelter. He was able to feed everyone with help from the LES Girls Club and Know Your Rights volunteers.
Together, everyone demonstrated teamwork and made the less fortunate feel like winners—on one of the biggest Sunday’s of the year.
